Man Utd weigh surprise swoop for £35m Bundesliga star who is ‘highly ranked’ on club’s 5 midfielder shortlist

Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller is one of Man Utd’s top targets ahead of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Speaking on The united position On the YouTube channel, Jacobs said the Germany international was “highly ranked” on the club’s list of five midfielders:

“About two months ago they had 8-12 names in discussion, but now the shortlist is focused on Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and maybe Angelo Stiller and Sandro Tonali.”

“Their ideal plan for the summer would be to sign two from this group as a midfielder. Other options could still present themselves, but if they miss those priorities they will have to look to alternatives. Angelo Stiller figures prominently in Man United’s thinking and is liked by Christopher Vivell and Jason Wilcox.”

Stiller would be the cheapest option for Man Utd

Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Sandro Tonali are all expected to command fees between £80m and £100m, with Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United all reluctant sellers.

Brighton could reduce their demands for Baleba, with the Cameroon international not having performed particularly well this campaign, but he will still cost more than Stiller, who could only cost around €40m (£35m) if his release clause is still active. Even if Stuttgart cut him, his valuation might only increase by another £10-15m.

How has Stiller fared this season?

The 24-year-old continues to be a creative outlet for Stuttgart. He has 9 assists in all competitions, only two fewer than during the 2024/25 campaign.

Stiller is very much a midfielder who dictates the play with his incisive passing from deep positions, so he would be a very different type of player to Casemiro, who is ready to go when his contract expires at the end of June.
